Enforce the required use of body cameras on police officers to ensure accountability and the safety of the citizens

Created by A.L. on February 16, 2016

Within the past few years, there has been an alarming amount of police misconduct. There are several cases in which the police officer, sworn to protect their citizens, have shot and killed those same citizens. Requiring the use of body cameras by police may help end this dangerous trend. Although several states have implemented a policy to require the use of body cameras, it has still yet to become a federal requirement.

The Obama Administration should support initiatives that protect the American citizens. By encouraging Congress to create a federal policy in which police officers are required to use body cameras during their line of duty, we create an environment of accountability. Furthermore, body cameras would serve in court as evidence.
