Section 3 of the 14th Amendment states: “No person shall … hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath… to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof...”
States have no Constitutional authority to secede from the United States. Threats of secession constitute a rebellion against the Constitution.
We petition that all elected officials who have signed petitions demanding secession, or who have otherwise engaged in rebellion against the Constitution by, for example, calling for the arrest of federal agents operating under Constitutional authority, be identified and removed from office.
