The recent airline mergers of Northwest Airline with Delta, Continental Airlines with United and now the proposed merger of US Airways with American has created none of the proffered benefits the airline executives promised. They said there would be more choices. They are wrong. They said there would be better competition on prices. They are wrong. They said there would be more jobs created. They are wrong. Delta alone has reduced flight schedules, closed down major hubs resulting in huge job losses, and raised fares. Further, the consolidation is hurting their best customers, the frequent fliers. The FFP's continue to get whittled to nothing. It is time to enforce the SATA and break the airlines up to create real competition.
