We the people ask the federal government to Call on Congress to act on an issue:

Enforce stricter regulations of the use of prescription drugs and better educate people about its effects.

Created by A.R. on May 09, 2016

Everyday in the US, 2,500 youth (ages 12-17) abuse a prescription pain reliever for the first time. There are more than 15 million people who abuse prescription drugs, which is more than the combined number who abuse cocaine, hallucinogens, inhalants, and heroin combined. Prescription drugs also the leading cause of death from drugs, accounting for 45% of drug related deaths. In 2007, the Drug Enforcement Administration found that the abuse of the pain killer Fentanyl killed more than 1,000 people that year in the US. 50% of teens think that prescription drugs are safer than illegal street drugs. 60%-70% of them say that they get their drugs from home medicine cabinets. We need to better educate people of the dangers of prescription drugs and more strictly regulate access to them.
