Per the announcement of Vice President Joe Biden, and the Department of Education in 2011, the use of the preponderance of the evidence legal standard to conduct investigations, and discipline in post-secondary institutions over the traditional beyond a reasonable doubt has ruined the academic careers of mostly male students. In many States, the crime of sexual assault, or rape, has historically been greater than the crime of murder. Case in point: sex offender registry databases. Is it really necessary to allow what is known as the lowest legal burden of proof (50% likely than not) -- presumed guilty -- for adults over the age of eighteen whose reasoning skills are above-average -- attendance at a university, to take away State sovereignty in handling such cases?
