The average citizen should be represented by average citizens. Currently, the average representative is significantly wealthier than the average citizen and as such the representatives consistently enact policies that are primarily beneficial to themselves and the wealthy. These representatives are only able to retain their positions by using their wealth to defeat any average citizen that may run against them. An income limit that excludes anyone with incomes higher than the national average from running for and from holding public office will ensure that elected representatives are accurately representing the average United States citizen.
