Implementation of an ordnance tagging protocol and secured data base using radio frequency microchip or similar technologies. This would expidite the location, identification and removal of UXO's while tracking failure rates of newly deployed munitions and saving civilian lives in post conflict countries. In addition, accounting of arms stockpiles and tracking illegal transfers could also be accomplished. This concept has been successfully tested by Battel Memorial Institute in 2007.It has been presented as Operation Lost Puppy in the 2011 Parari Ordance Safety Symposium and included in an article in this fall's issue (16.3) of the James Madison University Journal of ERW and Mine Action. This proposed protocol is simple, proactive and long over due as a reasponsible solution to UXO issues.
