Most American citizens depend upon television and radio for timely information about current events and issues. News and commentary programs today often consist of inaccurate, incomplete and biased reportage and commentary. Political advertizements often include false claims, misrepresentations and outright lies. This situation is damaging to our Democracy in that it leaves many people poorly informed on the issues and therefore ill equipped to make sound decisions as citizens and voters.
This petition asks that the regulatory power of the FCC be enhanced so as to better ensure that presenters of news, commentary and political advertizing on radio, television, wire, satellite and cable media are held accountable for providing accurate and balanced information.
