Smedley D. Butler was the most decorated soldier in American history when he died. He is still the most decorated Marine. After he retired from the military, he wrote a book titled "War is a Racket." in this book he stated that:
"I spent 33 years in the Marines, most of my time being a high-class muscle man for big business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer for Capitalism."
Smedley Butler was not a communist. He proposed a very elegant solution to prevent the exploitation of soldiers:
"The only way to smash this racket is to conscript capital and industry and labor...the high-powered executives of our armament factories..., be conscripted-to get the same wage as the lads in the trenches get."
