Every day, bank accounts of small businesses and individuals are plundered by hackers. This is a growing problem because there is no robust way of verifying a person's identity online. The U.S. Postal Service could fulfill this need. For example, if a person needed to reset their bank account's password, they would present to a nearby post office. For a small fee, the postal service would verify the person's identity for the bank. Only then would the password be reset. For individuals interested in sacrificing convenience for security, they might be able to opt-in to this system for their email and other online accounts as well. And the postal service could realize some much-needed revenue. A win-win for everyone except the hackers.
