The medical costs associated with transgender individuals often are not covered by health insurance including medicaid. For people who are born with gender congruency issues getting medical assistance to pay for transition procedures is often a barrier to healthy supervised transition. Those that cannot afford the medications, the doctor visits, or therapy often turn to black market, using dangerous substances to modify their bodies, and are often bullied or tormented until they commit suicide. Receiving universal health care access is necessary for the transgender community to ensure safe monitored transition. California and Oregon just required this and it should be expanded. Thank you for your attention to this matter and await your response.
