The healthcare debate in this country has been fixated on who pays for Health Care. While the real question should have been why we pay as much as we do. The petition is inspired by Steven Brill's brilliant article in Time magazine.
The objective is to allow consumers and other stake holders in Health Care, to get a better understanding of how Hospitals charge what they charge. Another suggestion would be to put an upper limit on how much a hospital can charge for services above what medicare pays for the same.
Healthcare has rightly been identified as a major drag on the economy. So this issue goes beyond just HealthCare.
