Direct Support Professionals provide vital, person centered, hands -on support, training and habilitation services to Individuals who have developmental disabilities,(Autism, intellectual impairment, cerebral palsy, & other debilitating diagnosis with frequent dual diagnosis of mental illness.) Public education for DSPs ensures the physical health, emotional well-being, and safety of millions of Americans. DSP's education, professionalism and dedication is vital to community based human services delivery systems. The # of individuals being diagnosed is ever increasing. Community services models save billions. Decreasing Adverse medication events would save billions. Educating our workforce in a career to protect human rights and dignity for our most vulnerable makes economic sense.
