Now more than ever, kids are preoccupied with hand-held electronic devices and gaming systems during their free time. While it is important to introduce our youth to the world of technology during this time of innovation, it is also necessary to emphasive the importance of reading and literature. We must start with elementary school students so that they may develop habits at a young age. I propose that all public elementary schools set aside 30 minutes a day of quiet reading time for the students. This will not take too much time from their studies, and the kids will have a time to relax and read for pleasure. They will have the opportunity to "un-plug" from the digital world learn to enjoy reading.
