Many people are surprised to learn that basic therapies are not covered for children with Autism. My insurance company paid for the evaluation, but no further treatment. Many families are going broke trying to fund treatment that has been proven to be effective. As a nation, we would never tolerate children with any other condition going without treatment. This really should be a national issue, not just a state by state decision.
Also, the rates of Autism have continued to rise steadily over the past two decades. Even accounting for different standards for diagnosing, the rate is still what would be considered an epidemic for any other disease. We need to find out NOW why this is happening. Why are we making our children sick?
