The name "Enterprise" has a proud history in our nation, be it a frigate, two aircraft carriers, a space shuttle and a starship. With the retirement of the U.S.S. Enterprise (CVN-65) we want to guarantee that the name "Enterprise" will continue on the strongest ships in the U.S. Navy, and to honor its science fiction namesake that it be given the registry number "CVN-1701".
