President Obama, an important campaign promise you made to the nation was to close the torture center at Guantanamo. We understand that you have been stymied by Republican obstructionism. But you can still meet this promise, and ensure that this nation never repeats the travesty of claiming we have a territory where US law does not apply, by taking one simple administrative step: cancel the lease on the Guantanamo Naval Station, and return the territory to Cuba. Negotiate with Cuba to take charge of the remaining unfortunates who are illegally held there, as a humanitarian gesture.
