Over more than a decade, Lance Armstrong persistently lied about his usage of performance-enhancing substances. This has caused irreparable harm to: (i) sports, (ii) the sport of cycling, (iii) his past teammates, (iv) his sponsors, (v) donors to his charities and (iv) all american citizens, who's reputation has been tarnished by association.
While it appears that he's recently shown signs of regret, these timid signs come too late and are in any case wholly inadequate, when one considers how much damage his deeds have caused.
We request that laws be put in place to discourage similar behavior in the future. This discouragement should be in the form of severe incarceration as financial penalties representing a fraction of ill-gotten gains are wholly inadequate.
