The United States Postal Service is a quasi-governmental agency and does not receive taxpayer support. In fact, the opposite is true. The Postal Service makes crushing payments to pre-fund retiree health care costs 75 years into the future. This money goes into the General Fund. This requirement must be changed so that the Postal Service can continue to offer Saturday delivery to all. There are many disabled and otherwise immobile persons who need this service to communicate and survive.
The Postal Service is still vital to our communities and it is one of the few entities spelled out in our Constitution. From advertising to package delivery, the Postal Service can be profitable if they continue to offer Saturday mail service without the health care funding requirement.
