Research shows that there is shortage of women in STEM fields. In order to complete globally, more women, particularly women of color and/or disadvantaged backgrounds, need to complete degrees in areas such as physics, engineering, and technology. One area for the federal government to make improvement is to build in opportunities for female students in elementary schools to engage in experiential learning. Therefore, the federal government must work with the states to implement curriculum requiring students to take field trips as part of their science class requirements.
