ensure that people born with missing ear/ear canal do not get denied bone anchored implants by insurance to hear.

Created by D.C. on February 19, 2016

We petition the Federal government to ensure that people born with one or two missing ear(s)/ear canal(s) (called microtia and atresia) do not get denied bone anchored implants or similar prosthetic devices by insurance companies.

Insurance companies are denying children and adults with birth defects the right to hear. They cannot use a hearing aid because they do not have an ear canal to place a hearing aid or an ear to hold one. Medicare has determined that a bone anchored implant is not a hearing aid but many insurance companies continue to deny these life altering devices because they claim they are hearing aids regardless of the Medicare determination.

We ask that the government ensure people with birth defects have the support of insurance to hear.
