Whereas, Social Security was created in 1935 to provide an economic safety net for people age 65 and older and has done so for over 75 years, and
Whereas, the $2.6 trillion in contributions collected so far is more than enough money to meet the needs of the program without adding to the debt of this great Nation, and
Whereas, previous Congress' and Presidents' have raided the Social Security trust fund to pay for other programs, so that it no longer has money sufficient to cover its payments,
NOW THEREFORE, we hereby petition the Congress and the President to repair the Social Security program by repaying the loans and to fully restore the Social Security Trust Fund,
Further, Congress must put in place a mechanism that prevents the fund from being depleted below $1 trillion.
