WHEREAS the 1st Amendment to the Constitution of the United States explicitly guarantees that "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof";
WHEREAS the circumcision of male infants is a common practice within Jewish and Christian religions, marked in their scripture as one of their god's first commandments to their religious ancestors;
WHEREAS there are medical studies which suggest that circumcision is healthy for a person, and therefore the medical opposition is mixed at best;
and WHEREAS there is a petition in motion to make this ancient custom illegal on the grounds of intolerant claims of "barbarism";
THEREFORE we humbly request that the President would veto any legislation which would make illegal circumcision.
