Ensure taxpayer money is not used to promote abortion

Created by D.M. on October 02, 2011

The federal government should not use taxpayer money to support and promote abortion. The Affordable Care Act does not contain legislative language to ensure taxpayer money will not be used for this purpose in the future. This agreement not to use federal money for abortions is so longstanding that, during the health reform debate, many felt it was already in place across the federal government. In fact, the Hyde amendment is only under the annual HHS appropriations bill and only controls budget dollars under that area.

Public officials may take a pro-choice stand on abortion, and courts have ruled on the constitutional “right” to abortion. However, we acknowledge the government can use its funding power to promote birth over abortion.
