Ensure that veterans and disabled veterans have ABSOLUTE preference for federal civilian jobs.

Created by J.L. on January 12, 2013

Although veterans have preference in the federal hiring system via additional points added to a score, it is no longer guaranteed that qualified veterans will be hired. There are several loopholes in the hiring practices that circumvent the hiring of veterans and supports continued cronyism. One such example is that veterans with preference are grouped with non-veterans on well-qualified, qualified and not qualified lists. The hiring manager can select anyone in the well qualified list. Another example that happened to me several times, a list of well-qualified candidates is returned "unused" as the desired candidates were not "within reach." Federal jobs were created and meant for veterans. They deserve it.
