Members of Congress should not be paid $174,000 per year plus government benefits. However, Constitutional law would state otherwise (see Article I section 6). At one time members of Congress were paid by the number of days for which they were present in Washington; this should be reinstated. It is not their job to be a lifetime politician, rather they were voted to work in our stead. Thus, they should only be paid for what they actually do to help US, the electorate. Also, members of government whom serve long enough should not be eligible for guaranteed, lifetime government compensation. This is outrageous, and not responsible. No Congressional salaries, and guaranteed lifetime compensation should be a farce.
