In 1963, President Kennedy signed The Equal Pay Act which aimed at ending the pay disparity between men & women. At the time women made about 59 cents on the dollar compared to men. But according to The Bureau of Labor Statistics, women still make about 79% of what men earn within the same field.
President Barack Obama signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act in 2009. This was a great step for women in the work force but the fact that half the American population is affected by such a thing like unequal pay due to gender, is still wrong.
In an age where women are becoming the breadwinner of the family or are single parents this is inexcusable.
Women deserve equal pay for equal work.
A form of regulation can definitely remedy this issue.
