To be brief, the average age of American farmers is 55 and rising. There is virtually no financial support to young farmers and farm families who would like to begin a life in agriculture. While there are many non profits and advocate groups that offer advice and occasionally a small amount of financial aid the search for that help can be overwhelming. This is an issue for the economy, future national security and for national heritage. There is no lack of young people dreaming of a hardworking life in agriculture but current farm subsidies and aid don't do much for aspiring young farmers. If we can loan big banks billions of dollars at virtually no interest why can't we invest in a secure future food supply and aspiring farmers.
