After serving faithfully for years as the voice of the Aflac duck, Gottfried was unjustly terminated on March 14, 2011 due to postings on Gottfried's Twitter account referencing the Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami. The company's chief marketing officer stated that Gilbert's comments about the crisis in Japan were lacking in humor and certainly do not represent the thoughts and feelings of anyone at Aflac.
Gilbert Gottfried is a cultural icon and it would be in the best interest of the United States of America to have him returned to his former position of prominence as the Aflac duck.
