There is currently a huge disparity in the fitness requirements for male and female Airmen in the United States Air Force, yet there is no disparity in the pay they receive. For example, males under 30 must be able to run a mile and a half in at least 13 min. and 36 sec., but females are afforded 16 min. 22 sec. That is almost a whole 3 minutes additional time allowed to females! This gives females a huge advantage in maintaining their careers and in earning promotions because a failed PT test can destroy a career. I am proposing that the Air Force adopts a service wide standard test for a minimum baseline to be an American Airmen and that career fields that require more stringent requirements to complete their job continue to have a separate test on top or in place of the baseline.
