Considering that gun violence in the U.S. causes roughly 31,000 deaths per year (http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nvsr/nvsr59/nvsr59_04.pdf) along with hundreds of thousands of injuries, this petition seeks to have federal legislation passed to institute an annual tax on gun owners on the basis of the number of guns that they own, with the proceeds of such revenues to be used to pay for the externalities of gun violence on our local communities (hospital costs, legal costs, law enforcement costs, coroner's costs, costs to broken families, etc.).
