To address the nation's spending problem and achieve deficit reduction, we the undersigned, recognizing the need for shared national sacrifice, petition the White House to create a budget that sets compensation for members of Congress at minimum wage.
Legislators have often stated government is often the problem and rarely the solution— it's time to pay them what they think they're worth. Millions of Americans must survive on minimum wage. Members of Congress may now demonstrate not only their patriotism, but solidarity with working families.
There are currently 535 members of the U.S. Congress. Each paid a salary of $174,000 x 535 = $93 million. Lawmakers will meet for 126 days in 2013. 126 x 8hrs = $7300 annual salary per member x 535 = $3.9 million for a savings of $89 million per yr
