I propose that, in the interest of all human endeavors, we intensify our research and improve our understandings of the events most likely to lead to human extinction or severe population decline (>99%). Such events may include the eruption of the Yellowstone Caldera, meteor impacts, and other large-scale natural phenomenon. It would be in mankind's best interest to begin working on means to prevent such disasters from occurring as soon as possible.
To address the greatest threats to humanity would benefit us all, and would increase the longevity of our species. To continue to underfund efforts to prevent such threats, or ignore them completely, is to undermine the collective efforts of man.
