Corporations, trade associations, unions and nonprofit groups can now make direct contributions to federal politicians.
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that such groups may now spend unlimited amounts of money advocating for or against politicians in the case Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission.
In doing do, the Supreme Court, led by Justice Anthony Kennedy, tossed out the distinction between individuals and corporations.
This ruling has lead to:
1. A significant rise in corruption.
2. A evident appearance of corruption within the political spectrum.
3. An undermine to the integrity of elected institutions across the nation.
4. A gross distortion of power and representation of special interest groups that do not represent the interests of the people.
