Establish federal guidelines expanding paternity and maternity leave more in line with other industrialized nations.

Created by T.K. on April 26, 2013

As a soon to be parent and a male I am appalled at the lack of focus for establishment of bonding with new children in our country. We live in a country which holds in high regard the familial unit, yet disregards the need for early interaction and time spent with new family members. I personally qualify for no paid time of for leave, and my wife is only give 6 weeks to "bond" with our new child. It is hard to believe we are one of only 4 countries in the world with not paid maternal leave policy. It is necessary we join the ranks of other enlightened nations in recognizing the need for a firmer national stance on paid maternal leave, not only for mothers but also fathers to establish strong family units and allow for good bonding between parents and newborns.
