Junk Mail is an unsolicited security risk, an environmental detriment and a nuisance that is delivered to Americans every day.
5.6 million tons of catalogs and other direct mail advertisements end up in U.S. landfills annually.
44 percent of junk mail is thrown away unopened, only half that much junk mail (22 percent) is recycled.
Americans pay $370 million annually to dispose of junk mail that is not recycled.
We petition the President, the House and the Senate to make it illegal for the USPS to deliver to any household that has opted out of the receipt of direct mailings, catalogs and any other form of "junk mail".
We ask that a Federal "Junk Mail Opt Out Registry " similar to the "Do Not Call Registry" be made available to all Americans seeking to stop the receipt of Junk Mail.
