We the people ask the Obama administration to consider establishing a global desalination initiative which would provide fresh water to the planet without destroying long-established aquifers. The technical advances involved would benefit not only the millions who need access to fresh water daily, but also to American industry, which can benefit from study and promulgation of this technology. According to Reuters, "About 780 million people around the world do not have access to clean drinking water, the United Nations reported last year." Lockheed-Martin, in particular, is exploring a new, inexpensive method of desalination, using graphene sheets, which may prove invaluable to all of humanity.
