The Gold Butte area of Nevada is an important environmental and cultural treasure. Home to a unique geology, as well as stunning petroglyphs and other historical artifacts, it is also an important habitat for rare and endangered species, such as the desert tortoise.
Gold Butte's treasures are under continuous threat from feral cattle, off-road vehicle travel, and vandalism. The Bureau of Land Management has designated Gold Butte to be an Area of Critical Environmental Concern, a designation highlighting the concern, but not providing the lasting protection that declaring it a National Monument would.
Gold Butte is truly an American jewel of which we, the people of the United States, can be proud. It has given us much; we need to give back. We need to preserve Gold Butte for all time.
