Establish a gun registration system similar to our current automobile registration system.

A recent Bloomberg report states that gun deaths are set to exceed traffic fatalities by 2015. Unlike automobiles that are purposed to take us from Point A to Point B faster than we can get there on foot, guns are purposed to inflict harm. That said, the current debate about guns is off target, no pun intended. Every law abiding citizen in America has a constitutional right to own a gun for whatever reason s/he sees fit to own one—for hunting, for protection, or for show. However, we need to have a system in place to ensure that all guns in the U.S. are registered. A system much like the one we have now for cars. One that requires periodic registration renewal, routine safety inspections, and proof of liability insurance which gun owners ought to be required to purchase as are car owners.
