According to a report filed in August 2012 by the Center for Disease Control (CDC), an average of 14 young people ages 10-24 are murdered every day, 740K children and youth are treated in hospitals as a result of violence and more than 3M reports of child maltreatment are received each year in the US. (http://www.cdc.gov/injury/about/focus-cm.html)
The safety and security issue that such violence creates for the citizens of this nation is unfathomable. The lifetime cost for child maltreatment alone is $124B annually.
I encourage this administration to put forth legislation that will mandate harsher punishment for individuals whom are convicted of violence towards children.
These penalties should be so harsh that they deter most individuals from exhibiting violence towards children.
