For too long in this country we've let our public works slide in favor of tax cuts, budgetary shrinkages, military spending, and other non-domestic spending. Local governments have been paralyzed by tax cuts and decreasing revenues and frequently vote to defund important infrastructure boards across the country, reducing bus service, public roads, government owned water and sewerage boards, publicly owned power companies, innumerable areas that the government should be involved in.
If the idea of taxation is to provide for the common good things that no corporation could profitably undertake, why let these things slide? Create a federal board of infrastructure that hires individuals on a vast scale to repair the infrastructure that local governments can't or won't and fund it properly.
