Establish legislation requiring honesty in media reporting with stiff penalties for deceptive or untrue statements.

Created by M.V. on January 22, 2013

An increasingly common aspect of political dealings in America involve the spread of misinformation, disinformation, half-truths, and outright lies. These intentionally pander to the emotional biases of the listener, but do not add to a rational view of the facts. Emotions inflamed upon the devices of cunning men and women steer large portions of our population to anger over matters that are either not true, or spun to the point of ridiculous. Honesty must be required in all media statements. We do not allow false advertising in commerce, no false claims allowed by the FDA. We should not tolerate falsehoods spread as truths by political entities or their news media opinion shows. These entities must be criminally accountable for false representation of facts, even if only opinion.
