This petition is to create legislation requiring any and all counties and cities in the United States to conduct periodic studies to determine the Living Wage required for their individual areas, and then put these wages into effect.
Using my home state as an example: "The living wage for a single individual living in Western North Carolina for 2012-2013 is $11.35/hour without benefits, or $9.85/hour with employer-provided health insurance."[1] Currently the Federal Minimum Wage is $7.25/hour, falling well below either standard for the cost of living in the area.
It is my firm belief that we cannot entrust corporations to do what is right to provide for our work force, and must therefor enact legislation requiring them to do so.
