The federal government must establish a task force to address the following issues: 1) reasonable access to mental health care; 2) navigation of the mental health system with an unobstructed pathway of action; and 3) breaking down current mental health system barriers. All of these together prevent people with mental health challenges from receiving the care they need and deserve.
Our concern rises from the overwhelming number of catastrophic shooting tragedies. The Vice President’s task force is singularly focused on gun control and not the true underlying root causes which are founded upon the failures of the mental health system in the U.S.
This new mental health task force should be organized with the same level of concern and commitment as the current gun control task force.
