We the people ask the federal government to Call on Congress to act on an issue:

Establish a more reasonable minimum sentence for individuals found guilty of rape or other sexual crimes against persons

Created by N.N. on September 21, 2016

We have seen, on several occassions, Americans convicted in a court of law for sexual crimes up to and including rape and receive what is perceived as unjustly lenient sentences due to varying circumstances. We believe sexual crimes against persons warrant a more intensive and appropriate punishment in a court of law. Recent leniency has been highlighted in the media. We believe it is necessary to re-evaluate current laws and establish a reasonable minimum punishment for Americans prosecuted and found to be guilty of rape and other sexual crimes against persons. A person being released from prison after a mere 3 months after being found guilty of raping another person is absolutely disheartening. Victims must live with the trauma for life. An appropriate punishment needs to be levied.
