Education & Sharing Day was established by a joint Congressional resolution to promote the importance of including moral education & the development of good character in our education system. Unfortunately, Congress linked Education & Sharing Day to the birthday of the late Lubavitcher Rebbe- a controversial & racist sectarian leader who forbade his followers to engage in dialogue with representatives of other religious groups & whose policies deprive students in Lubavitch schools of a basic education in language arts, math, and science. He also fought against gender equality.
We ask that President Obama stop honoring Rabbi Schneerson & instead link Education and Sharing Day to a leader whose life and work reflect a commitment to tolerance, equality, and diversity.
