Every day, millions of Americans voluntarily purchase lottery tickets that provide revenue to the states. They do so in exchange for the chance--however slim--to win an unimaginable fortune.
At the same time, Americans dislike taxes, having lost sight of the direct connection between government services and the revenues required to provide them.
We propose the creation of a National Income Tax Lottery and Itemized Tax Receipt that will allow citizens a fully transparent view of exactly how many of "their" tax dollars are applied to each budgetary line item, while simultaneously creating opportunities for Americans to win a meaningful amount of money through a random drawing: A waiver of the year's income tax PLUS the year's reported taxable income--100% tax-free.
