Mountain top removal literally blows up whole mountains to get at a thin coal seam, poisoning residents below and permanently destroying entire mountains worth of Appalachian ecosystem. Arch Coal has four planned operations in West Virginia on Blair Mountain, site of the largest labor uprising in American history, which could destroy part of the Blair Mountain battlefield and devastate the Dingess Run watershed. If their plans are allowed to continue, it would blast away part of the battlefield where there is evidence of intense fighting and complex defensive positions. The battlefield would be cut into two pieces, undermining attempts to make the battlefield into a National Park. Please protect our nation's history from big coal's profit$.
