Our country has a nationwide electrical grid, oil& gas pipeline system and transportation system.
There are constantly simultaneous droughts and floods (and more coming with the snow melt). There needs to be a national system of water distribution from coast to coast and border to border.
Pumping the water over mountains and recovering the energy on the down hill side through hydro-electric plants would make the system energy neutral.
