The government is no longer responsible to the people and is characterized by the extreme spending and huge debt of this government. Where is the accountability?
The government should only be allowed to spend what it can earn, just like any business is responsible to its shareholders. Instead of Congress allocating funds it doesn't have, Congress, along with the Government Accountability Office, should be accepting budgets and publicly publishing the budgets from each Department and adjusting income and wage rates accordingly.
By doing so, the people can be informed and empowered to act according to how their contributions to the government are managed and what they can afford. The tax code should be simplified and provide a near flat rate with exemptions only to those less fortunate.
